What is Earth Day? Who Started it?
Earth Day Started by the United States Senator, Gaylord Nelson.as an educational forum,on the April22,1970.
The day was celebrated in he U.S only for some years till Denis Hayes. Who was the National Coordinator,took it to an international platform in 1990, and involved 141 countries to be a part of this big event.Today, almost 175 nations in the world are part of this drive
Why should we celebrate Earth Day?
The important thing to remember is that, every day is an Earth Day. The Day 22 of April, the world comes together, and works towards rebuilding the fractured state of our environment.
How does one celebrate the Earth Day?
The ideas are simple-preserve the earth and make it a better place to live in. From planting just a tree, reducing your carbon footprint, recycling and reusing at home and at work, to organizing environmental awareness events, Earth Day is a day when the entire globe, together, reflects on what we are doing to help protect the environment.
Does Earth Day have a theme?
Yes, the themes for the past years were along the lines of ‘climate change’ and efforts were aimed towards developing climate policies, increasing energy efficiency through renewable sources and promoting green jobs. The theme this year is ‘A billion acts of Green’. This theme has been gaining popularity among industries, governments and individuals, to work towards building a healthier environment.
What is Earth Day Network?
Earth Day Network was started to promote environmental awareness and activism. Denis Hayes along with other organizers in1970 started to work towards progressive action, nationally and internationally. Earth Day Network members include NGOs, quasi-governmental agencies, local governments, activists, and individuals. EDN today is wider and has more countries as a part of it.
